A backing band for your chart

Type in the chords, switch on the drums and the bass, and hear a band play your chart. Then arrange it, print it, or take the MIDI away.

jamwi is in a closed beta while it is being finished. I already have a code.

What it plays

A real kit and a real bass

Sampled drums and bass rather than a synth stand-in. The band is played, not beeped. Set how busy each player is, how hard they hit and how often they fill.

Meters that are not all four

12/8 slow blues, straight rock, a waltz in 3/4, a march in 2/4 and 9/8. The metronome clicks the felt pulse, so a 12/8 bar counts four.

Sections, not one long loop

Write a verse and a chorus, give each its own style, key, feel and mix, then arrange them into a running order and loop the one you are practising.

Edit what the band played

Open a part and move a note, quieten it, lengthen it or put it on another drum. Your edits survive a change of style, and when one stops matching anything it is kept and shown rather than dropped.

Take it with you

Export MIDI with the drums and bass on their own tracks, tempo and time signature included. Or print a lead sheet: chords over bars, on paper.

Yours, in your browser

There is no backend. Songs are saved in this browser, and nothing is uploaded anywhere, which is also why there is nothing to sign up for.

Start with a chord

  1. Pick a template or start blank. A twelve-bar blues in A, a bossa two-five, or four empty bars in whatever meter you want.
  2. Type the chords.Am7, D9, F♯m7♭5. The grid takes what a musician writes, and tab steps from one to the next.
  3. Press play. The band reads the chart: the bass walks the changes, the kit plays the style, and the fills land at the end of a phrase.
